Keith is one of those rare individuals who will act as your “sherpa guide” all the way, metaphorically speaking – the trek, to base camp and beyond. He will, for example, take on the onerous task of getting fabulous flights from your air miles. Without my lifting a finger Keith booked all my flights on United, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa. I never spoke to an agent nor did I have to deal with bureaucracy. The remaining 75,000 air miles are for future travels. At Keith’s advice I asked for and received an upgrade to 3 empty sets together in economy on my return flight.
This traveler has a particular need to swim laps.. In Bankok Keith was able to book my friend and I in a reasonably priced hotel surrounded by tropical vegetation. After a long sweaty day traipsing around the city it was a welcome break to luxuriate under the palms.
My room in the Siem Reap hotel was fit for a queen and was centrally located. My friend, Joan and I were greeted by a CNN hero, our guide for Angkor Wat. After our visit to as much as one can see of all the important temples and a brief emotionally laden recounting of her father’s death as a result of the Khmer Rouge, our guide escorted us to a school for orphans . Not mentioned in any of the guidebooks, this unique school is a place where Cambodian students were able to continue their education by creating exquisite leather bas reliefs. We were invited into the school, met the founder/ principal and students who presented us with our purchases. We felt that we were, with our very small gesture, contributing to the benefit of the children of Siem Reap.
During the tail end of our vacation in Bhutan I received a call from my daughter informing me that our home in Red Hook was hit badly by Sandy. Within a day Keith rebook my trip home 3 days earlier on those same air miles so that my 24 year old would not be stranded alone without her mother’s help.
Still shaken by Sandy, I am now slowly recapping the highlights of this trip. Ever present is the comforting thought that there was this person Keith who was there for me at all times.
For those of you who want big adventure and the security of knowing that someone will be there for you, I give Sherpa Keith 5 stars!
